Homeschooling - At What Age Should You Begin?
With the recent birthday of our son now behind us, my wife and I could not be happier as the proud parents of an healthy, active 2 year old boy. Over the past 2 years, a lot has changed both with us and our son. Watching him grow and learn has been nothing short of amazing. It is truly amazing at what kids can accomplish in so little time!
As we move into his 3rd year of life, many decisions regarding school and daycare will become more relevant to us than they were just a few months ago. With the realization that kindergarden will be here before we know it, I recently began to think about homeschooling and, more specifically, question at what age should one begin the process.
Now, in my humble opinion, our son is already ready for some organized learning. In fact, my wife and I have been discussing enrolling him in a 2 day/week daycare in order to allow him the socialization and organized activity that he appears to thrive in. But does that mean he is ready for homeschooling? In my opinion, I believe that he is already being “home schooled”. The daily activity, reading, and lessons that my wife engages with him have clearly helped him learn such things as the alphabet, etc.
I know this post may seem a bit silly. My son is only 2 years old and here I am questioning whether to begin homeschooling. It is not that I really plan to engage in a formal homeschooling curriculum at this age, but is it too early to begin some type of organized or developed lesson?
