Homeschooling - Customization Has Its Advantages
By now, most of us know that no two kids are exactly alike. This is true is athletics, social skills and, of course, school. Every child learns, studies and understands at different levels and abilities. Unfortunately, most public and private school systems do not have the ability to adjust their curriculums to this reality.
Homeschooling, on the other hand, gives parents and students the opportunity to discover what motivates and excites a particular child. This information can then be used to develop a curriculum or environment that can maximize the educational process of the child. This is clearly evident with the abundance of homeschooling curriculum available today.
So how does a parent discover how to customize a homeschooloing plan? The easy answer is to study your child. Watch them as the study a particular subject or engage in a certain exercise. What makes them tick? What excites or frustrates them? Use this information to your advantage!
For example, if you know that your child loves baseball but hates studying math, one great way to get them motivated to study is to combine the two. Obviously, baseball deals heavily with statistics. In fact, there is probably no other sport that relies so heavily on numbers. For the student who is not interested in math, get them to calculate players’ averages in certain situations. Develop “what if” scenarios that they have to answer.
The bottom line is that homeschooling offers parents the flexibilty to customize school to the needs of the child. Use this to your advantage and help your child excel where they might otherwise struggle!
