Homeschooling Online - All Parents Are Homeschoolers
Every parent is a homeschooler. They may not see themselves as such, but they are. Think about it!
How many parents do you know that drive their children to and front piano lessons, boy scouts, or little league? How about parents who take their children to church on Sunday? Do you know any parents who instruct their children to “not talk to strangers” or to “be polite” and “respect your elders?” If you do, then you know someone who is schooling their children, and these lessons likely take place at home. Isn’t that homeschooling?
Many people think homeschooling is all about approaching traditional education in an unconventional way. They have this vision that parents are trying to do what teachers do, but since they’re not teachers they are failing miserably. That’s not quite how homeschooling works, thank God!
True homeschooling begins before children are old enough to enroll in school. As early as age 1 we’re teaching children, or helping them teach themselves. First, to crawl, then to walk, then we potty train them, and wean them off bottles. You get the picture. Why then do most parents end their schooling at age 4 or 5 and submit to the hands of faceless, emotionally detached bureaucrats? It isn’t natural.
