Homeschooling Online - I’ve Decided To Home School, Now What?

When it comes to homeschooling your kids, there are several factors that will come into play that ultimately will influence how you approach your homeschooling decision and process.  Once the decision has been made to proceed, many parents are not sure what steps to take next.  Hopefully, this post will provide some tips that you can follow to help outline what needs to be done in order to move forward.

  • Locate your state’s homeschooling group.  This can easily be done by searching online with the word “home school” or “homeschooling” as your main keyword followed by the name of the state in which you live.  You should be able to easily find at least two or three main resource sites that you can use to find state specific information.
  • Locate a local homeschooling support group for parents of homeschooled children.  These local groups can often be formed by geographical proximity or by particular homeschooling programs.  Regardless of how they are formed, these support groups can provide useful tips and resources from others who share your interests.  They also provide a great place to ask questions and find answers about specific programs.
  • Research and become familiar with the laws in your state as they relate to homeschooling.  If you have questions, arrange a meeting with a representative from your local school board so that you can verify your child’s eligibility for homeschooling.
  • Begin researching and collecting information from magazines, books, industry reports, etc that will help provide insight on different homeschooling programs and other resources that you will need to effectively begin the process.

I know that the decision to homeschool your children may, at first, appear to be a daunting task.  However, with the right support and information, you should quickly begin to feel more comfortable with your decision.
